about Roche & Co

Established in 1995, Roche & Co of Westminster, London, specialise in major criminal defence, with emphasis on fraud and money-laundering. We have represented clients from the UK and abroad.

We also undertake civil fraud proceedings in the county court and the High Court. As members of the Specialist Fraud Panel, we are one of the 190 solicitors firms authorised to defend clients in serious and complex fraud cases, out of 14,103 firms.

Roche & Co are regulated by The Law Society and have been awarded the Legal Services Commission Quality Mark. Whilst all members of the Specialist Fraud Panel offer clients exceptional levels of service, we are particularly proud of our success in representing clients at interview.

Our audited figures, taking into account all of our clients over the past three years (from November 2000 to December 2003) are as follows:

1 At interviews with prosecuting authorities, 80% of clients represented by this office were not charged with any criminal offences following their interviews.

2 Of the remaining 20% of clients, half were acquitted, found not guilty or proceedings against them were discontinued by the Crown.

3 Of the remaining 10% of our clients (namely those who were found guilty whether or not we represented them at interview and whether or not they pleaded guilty) only 25% of that group faced the probability of being imprisoned (excluding successful appeals against custodial sentences).

4 Overall our clients have enjoyed an 80% probability of not being charged in the first place (where we represent them at interview) a 10% probability of acquittal following charge, and only a 2.5% probability of imprisonment following determination of guilt. In other words, our clients have enjoyed a 97.5% probability of a favourable outcome based upon our audited data over the past three years.

Note that clients who we have advised to plead guilty appear to have received much more lenient sentences, in consideration for saving the court time and saving the taxpayer money.

In addition to helping our clients, we also save the taxpayer significant amounts of money by persuading the prosecuting authorities not to charge clients in the absence of clear evidence. In every sense, we provide an essential public service, and we remain committed to providing wholly independent and impartial advice to our clients.
